Most weekends, you can find Choose To Be Nice at a festival somewhere in New England. A few months ago, we attended the Chatham Arts & Crafts Festival. Like other events of this nature, we got there early, set up our tent, and waited for people to come by our table. For all intents and purposes, it was an event like any other. There was one thing, however, that stood out on this particular day.

A young lady named Jessica.

Jessica is a rising senior in high school. When she came by our booth in Chatham, she completely fell in love with Choose To Be Nice. Unfortunately, she did not have enough money for a t-shirt. Our founder, Dina, told Jessica she would be more than happy to give her a shirt for whatever money the girl had.

Upon hearing this, Jessica went home to get some more money. When she returned, she had exactly $14, which is $6 short of the price of a shirt. But in the Choose To Be Nice spirit, Dina told her to pick one out.

To the founder’s surprise, Jessica then presented Dina with a rope bracelet along with two colorful bookmarks. Jessica explained that she had made them for Dina.

“I was so touched and enamored by her,” Dina explains.

A woman nearby who had just purchased tees for herself and her daughter witnessed the exchange and handed Jessica $5 to go towards her shirt. Jessica was thrilled to receive her new shirt. Before she left, she gave Dina a warm hug.

Dina shares that “it’s times like these I remember why I started Choose To Be Nice.”
